Happy New Year

As we neared the close of 2009 a lot of us were eager for 2010 to makes its arrival.  2009 was not the best year for some due to the economy, recession, etc. but with a new year comes new hope.  So from our Affairs With Elegance family to yours…here’s hoping 2010 is filled with good health, laughter, prosperity and LOVE.

We brought in the new year by attending church service.  Then we headed home for dinner.  My mother is from the south and has New Year’s traditions like eating black eyed peas for good luck and eating leafy greens for wealth during the year.  On Twitter I tweet with planners and wedding industry pros from all over the county.  Wednesday I found out an Argentine New Years tradition where women wear pink panties for good luck in finding a husband.  Click here to read all about this interesting tradition that was originally started for single women.

How did you bring in 2010 and what are some of your traditions?

Happy 4th of July

Wishing you and your family a fun {and safe} holiday weekend.

Happy New Year!

If you read our recap posts you’ll know that 2008 was a pretty good year for us. I am very much looking forward to the great things to come in 2009.

Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year!

Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree

The above photo is of my Christmas tree. I put it up early this year. The tradition my mother and I had as a kid was to put up our tree on Christmas Eve while listening to Christmas songs/carols and baking cookies. That tradition rolled over into my marriage but over the last couple of years I’ve debated changing the tradition. The reason? Lugging the tree from the basement (well actually The Mr. does that part), assembling it, adding several strings of lights and decorating it with all gold ornaments and bows is way too much work to only leave up for a week…two at the most. Last year I started a couple days earlier but this year I started a week earlier. My goal is to have my tree up the first weekend in December. That will be the new tradition. What is your Christmas tradition with your spouse?

From all of us here at Affairs With Elegance, we wish you a safe and Merry Christmas!

We all know what today is…

I just wanted to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers out there. Unfortunately, my mother lives in another state so I won’t see her today. She and I use to have an annual tradition of going to brunch every Mother’s Day. I’d try to pick a different venue each year so that there was still an element of surprise. Our last one was in 2004 because she moved back to her home town of Jackson, MS. So instead of brunch she received a care package from her loving daughter.

When I got married, I became a step-mom. My husband always does something for me but it’s always an interesting weekend since his birthday usually falls so close to Mother’s Day. Like this year, his birthday is the day before. So I spent Saturday honoring him and he’ll return the favor today. Next year will really be interesting since his birthday will actually fall ON Mother’s Day.

Happy Easter!

I just wanted to wish everyone a happy Easter.

My husband and I are hosting dinner for 25-30 of our close family and friends. This is a tradition that was started by my mother back in the mid 80′s. We took over the dinner a few years back once she moved back to her home town.

Enjoy!

We all know what today is!!

I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day. I know there are some who hate this holiday but I am not one of them. Even when I was single I loved this day. I guess that’s the “hopeless romantic” in me. What I didn’t like was spending it alone…lol.

For me Valentine’s Day is all about romance not gifts and over priced flowers, candies and dinners. So to all of my couples out there, do something romantic for your significant other. Be creative. My husband never knows what to expect each year and that’s the fun of it all.

I haven’t forgotten my single readers. You all should check out this post from Isis over at Posh Events, LLC.
