Wedding Planners-Comparing Apples to Apples

applesandoranges

We often receive inquiries from brides asking for pricing on our wedding packages. Once we provided the requested information, some schedule an initial consultation while others we never hear from again.

I discourage brides from shopping based on price alone. Our prices are higher than some and lower than others. I tell prospective clients to make sure they compare the services offered in each wedding planner’s package, their years or level of experience and their personalities. That way you are comparing apples to apples instead of apples to oranges. One wedding planner may charge a higher fee because they’ve been in the business for 25 years, planned thousands of weddings or includes everything but the kitchen sink in their package. Another wedding planner may charge a much lower fee because they’ve only been in the business for 6 months, only planned 3 weddings or only includes the bare minimum in their package.

So after viewing their website I encourage you to meet with the wedding planners that pique your interest. Ask how long they’ve been in business, how many weddings they’ve planned (not including their own), are they members of any associations/organizations (if that is important to you), will they provide references, etc. The initial consultation is also a chance for both you and the planner to assess each other’s personality. You will work with this person on one of life’s biggest milestone celebrations therefore you need to know if your personalities mesh and if you will work well together.

Once you’ve taken all of these things into consideration, you should be able to narrow down your choices and make an informed decision.

We're Back!

We are a few weeks into the New Year (and new decade) and it’s obvious that we took a little break from our blog.  Well we’re back and ready to connect with engaged couples.  Hopefully you’ll find some great posts to help you as your plan your wedding.

Did he put a ring on it over the holidays?  If so, you’ll probaby want to check out the “Newly Engaged?” series we started last month.  The posts are designed to help couples with what to do right after getting engaged…choosing your wedding date, determining your wedding budget, wedding guest list, choosing your wedding party, etc.

This coming week all of our posts will be related to choosing a wedding planner.  We hope the advice will help you with what to look for as well as red flags to beware of.

Stay tuned…

Happy New Year

As we neared the close of 2009 a lot of us were eager for 2010 to makes its arrival.  2009 was not the best year for some due to the economy, recession, etc. but with a new year comes new hope.  So from our Affairs With Elegance family to yours…here’s hoping 2010 is filled with good health, laughter, prosperity and LOVE.

We brought in the new year by attending church service.  Then we headed home for dinner.  My mother is from the south and has New Year’s traditions like eating black eyed peas for good luck and eating leafy greens for wealth during the year.  On Twitter I tweet with planners and wedding industry pros from all over the county.  Wednesday I found out an Argentine New Years tradition where women wear pink panties for good luck in finding a husband.  Click here to read all about this interesting tradition that was originally started for single women.

How did you bring in 2010 and what are some of your traditions?
