The Year in Review – 2008 4th Quarter

Today is the recap for the latter part of the year.

October – At the beginning of the month, I attended The Knot’s Baltimore vendor party held at the Baltimore Museum of Industry and celebrated my wedding anniversary. Mid month we had the wedding of Stephanie and Bobby who hosted their wedding reception at Old South Country Club. At the end of the month the Mr. and I traveled to Dallas, TX to attend a Cowboys football game.

November – Like most Americans, I voted in the historical election. Also, I had brunch with 10 wedding planner colleagues of mine at America Restaurant in DC and celebrated my birthday.

December – I celebrated the birth of Christ with family and friends. I also changed our blog header to reflect our “people person” personality. On New Year’s Eve, The Mr. and I will attend watch night service and bring in 2009 in church.

What are your plans for New Year’s Eve?

The Year in Review – 2008 1st Quarter

2008 was a really great year for Affairs With Elegance so I thought I’d recap each quarter of this past year…in case you missed something.

January – I attended The Special Event Show in Atlanta, GA where I met new wedding planner friends Isis of Posh Events, Isha of Isha Foss Events, Elizabeth and Christina of Elizabeth Bailey Weddings and Meredith of Elegant Engagements. I also met renowned event planner Preston Bailey and the cake diva herself Sylvia Weinstock at the Engaged Magazine Bridal Show in Washington, DC.

February – I met and had lunch with Janice of The Bridal Wishlist Blog.

March – we moved into our new office/studio space. I also attended the My Day Magazine Bridal Show which was held at the Tremont Grand in Baltimore.

Come back tomorrow to see the recap of the 2nd quarter.

Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree

The above photo is of my Christmas tree. I put it up early this year. The tradition my mother and I had as a kid was to put up our tree on Christmas Eve while listening to Christmas songs/carols and baking cookies. That tradition rolled over into my marriage but over the last couple of years I’ve debated changing the tradition. The reason? Lugging the tree from the basement (well actually The Mr. does that part), assembling it, adding several strings of lights and decorating it with all gold ornaments and bows is way too much work to only leave up for a week…two at the most. Last year I started a couple days earlier but this year I started a week earlier. My goal is to have my tree up the first weekend in December. That will be the new tradition. What is your Christmas tradition with your spouse?

From all of us here at Affairs With Elegance, we wish you a safe and Merry Christmas!

Our First Christmas Ornament

Couples are usually very excited to celebrate their first holidays together. Christmas is one of those holidays where you can actually commemorate your union. There are so many places to purchase an ornament for your Christmas tree. Check your local Hallmark Stores and various mall kiosks. Many places will personalize them by adding your names and/or year. The picture above is of the ornament my husband and I purchased for our tree the year we were married. It makes its way onto our tree every year. I always place it front and center so that everyone can see it.

We also add an ornament we purchased while on our honeymoon in Aruba. It is an instant reminder of our fun on the island every time I pull it out. Most couples get tons of souvenirs like magnets, t-shirts, etc. as mementos from their honeymoon but don’t think about purchasing something for the holidays. So don’t forget to add an ornament to your list.

Happy Holidays!

New Blog Header

In case you hadn’t noticed, our blog header has changed. The old header showed off some of my design work but I’m a people person. So I thought it only made sense to include photos of clients and their bridal party in the new header. I’ve also added our signature “pink” and the Affairs With Elegance logo.
