AWE Real Bride’s Perspective – Michelle

As brides plan for their big day, I thought it would be nice to share experiences from other brides. So I asked some of my previous brides (now wives) to give me their perspective of their wedding day. Below are the responses from Michelle who married Lawrence on June 7, 2008. Click here and here to see the original blog posts from their wedding.

What was the best part of your wedding day?
The best part of the day was getting to see all my family and friends at the reception. We talked, ate, and had a great time dancing!

What do you feel was totally unnecessary?
The cake server set…no one really saw it and we’ll probably never use it again.

What would you change, if anything?
There is nothing I would want to change about that day, it was amazing!

What was unexpected that you loved?
We said the traditional vows during the ceremony, but my husband gave a speech at the reception that had me in tears!

What are your fondest memories of your wedding day?
Walking down the aisle with my father, sitting at our sweetheart table towards the end of the reception and reflecting on the entire day.

Is there anything you wish you had spent more time or money on?
No

Is there anything you wish you had spent less time or money on?
The programs. They were DIY and they took forever to do. Even though they turned out beautifully I wished I had forked out the money to have someone else do them.

Were there any unexpected surprises or issues?
Our ceremony was a lot shorter than expected, so much so that the photographer had to dash back up the aisle to get our first kiss shots.
(note: the officiant for their wedding went through the ceremony very quickly and even skipped the planned soloist…we have no idea why)

What’s your number #1 tip for future brides?
Be finished with all the final details a week before the wedding so you can spend the final few days relaxing!

How did you feel after the wedding?
Satisfied, and excited to go on our honeymoon. My wedding was everything I wanted and more…

10 Reasons I Love Weddings!

After each wedding I usually take time to reflect on the whole day. What I’ve noticed is there are a few things that I always remember most about a couple’s wedding day.

1. Calling my brides on their wedding to say good morning and wishing them a Happy Wedding Day! They are always so happy and upbeat and EXCITED. I love that!

2. Seeing the bride in her wedding dress (with all the trimmings…veil, jewelry, etc.)

3. Seeing the proud face of the bride’s father (or escort) as he prepares to walk her down the aisle.

4. Opening the doors before the bride makes her grand entrance. For me it’s like opening the curtain at the beginning of a play. It deserves drama and grandeur.

5. Watching the groom’s face as he sees his bride for the first time.

6. Seeing the humongous smiles of the happy couple as they are pronounced husband and wife…and the even bigger smiles as they recess up the aisle hand in hand.

7. Seeing the look on the couple’s face when they see the décor and design of their wedding reception. Although they usually know all of the elements that will be included in the design, it’s another thing to see it all set-up.

8. Watching the couple dance their first dance. Love is always in the air and on their faces.

9. Saying goodbye to the happy couple (and their parents) at the end of their celebration. I usually get a BIG hug from them as thank you for helping them plan such an important day in their lives. It’s one of the best feelings!

10. Driving home excited about downloading any pictures I (or my staff) have taken during the day just so I can see things one more time.

11. Talking to my couples when they return from their honeymoon so I can hear all about their wedding day (from their point of view) as well as a few details of their honeymoon

12. Seeing the photographer’s photos and/or the videographer’s DVD and re-living the day all over again!

I know I said 10 reasons but I thought of two more. What can I say…I really love weddings! Maybe I should change the title…lol. Leave a comment and share your favorite thing about weddings.

My very own photo shoot

Okay not exactly but sort of. I contacted the wonderfully talented Jen Lowe of J.Lowe Photos about doing some head shots of me for my website, etc. I thought it was time you were able to put a face and name to the company I call Affairs With Elegance. While I was a little nervous, Jen did a great job of getting me to relax. She chose the location which I thought was perfect…even though I’m not the outdoors type. Jen just has a way of bring out your personality no matter where you are. That’s probably why she’s so great at her craft. So without further ado meet little ol’ me…Lakendra Kennedy.
