I’m Back!

Hi everyone. I’m back from The Special Event Show and I had a blast! This year’s conference was attended by over 5,000 special event professionals from all across the country and abroad (I met someone from Australia). Between the speakers, the classes, the events, the vendors and the décor…one couldn’t help but be inspired. Each day provided something different so each day this week I will post based on the same day of last week’s conference. Monday was my travel, check-in and registration day so I do not have any pictures for that. Let’s just say Monday was the day where my excitement was at its peak. Join me tomorrow as I blog about last Tuesday.

The Special Event Show

Next week we’re off to the annual Special Event Show being held in Atlanta, GA. In this ever changing business it’s impossible to know it all which is why continuing education and industry conferences are paramount in being successful in the wedding and special event industry.

We will attend several educational sessions to stay abreast of the latest trends, beautiful décor designs, new business tools and resourses, etc. There are also several networking opportunities to meet professionals from all over the country. The festivities kick-off Tuesday at “TSE Starts Here” which will be held at The Georgia Aquarium and catered by Wolfgang Puck Catering Team. Wednesday afternoon is the “Wedding Luncheon” which includes a tour of the wedding gallery full of fabulous tablescapes. Wednesday evening is the “Welcome Event” which will be co-sponsored by NACE (National Association of Catering Executives). Thursday is the “Leadership Brunch” which will be held at the legendary Fox Theatre. The final event of the week is the “Gala Award Show” which recognizes outstanding work by individuals and companies in the special event and wedding industry. I can’t forget the “Exhibit Hall” which will feature over 300 vendors showcasing their products and services.

Check back the week of Jan 21st for tons of photos from the conference.

Engaged Magazine’s Bridal Event

Engaged! magazine is hosting the Bridal Event at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in DC on Sunday, January 27, 2008. Featured guest speakers include celebrity wedding and event designer Preston Bailey and cake queen Sylvia Weinstock. Enjoy a four-course plated tea and meet several of the area’s finest vendors. Don’t forget to visit Bridal Row where you can meet and chat with several bridal salon managers and hopefully find the courture wedding dress of your dreams.

The show runs 11:00am – 6:00pm with the tea seating beginning at 1:00pm. Tickets are $55 per person.

New Wedding Book Alert

There’s a new wedding book out. This time from talented wedding planner Jung Lee of Fête in NYC. The book, titled Fête: The Wedding Experience, is available on Amazon.com for $45 and Barnes and Noble.com for $36. It features 8 weddings produced by Jung and her team. I’m sure they will provide endless design inspiration as well as useful tips.

Many of you may remember Jung from the early seasons of Whose Wedding Is It Anyway. Her weddings featured on the show were always modern and elegant. Check out her website portfolio for more pictures.

Goodbye 2007…Hello 2008

Happy New Year! It has been a great year for me and Affairs With Elegance. It was an honor and a pleasure to work with some wonderful couples this past year. I want to thank them ALL for allowing us to assist in the wedding planning for their special day. I can’t wait for our 2008 weddings! It is a beautiful thing to watch a loving couple exchange their vows, families celebrating and a fun time being had by all.

Our successful events would not be possible without the dedication of a few people…Terry, Kim, Tonya and Beverly. We make a great team. Thank you for all of your hard work. Most of all, I want to thank my wonderful and ever supportive husband. He is always there to lend a very big helping hand. I’d also like to thank my wedding planning partners in crime Lorez and Monique. We network, vent, offer advice and lend hands when needed. I’m sure my husband would like to thank them too…he can only take but so much of hearing about centerpieces, linens and the endless number of wedding shows I watch. 2007 also marked some other exciting things like redesigning our website, starting this blog, attending courses under George Washington University’s Event Management Program and competing in a table top competition.

I am looking forward to GREAT things to come in 2008! We are starting off the year by attending The Special Event Show which is an annual conference being held in Atlanta, GA January 15th-18th. Look for more changes to our website, photos from upcoming weddings, exciting news and of course more blogging.
