A New Wedding Trend

Most couples want the WOW factor at their reception. Well there seems to be a new trend these days and I don’t mean with design, flowers or food. Couples are leaving their guests in awe or even speechless during their first dance. They start off dancing slow and gazing into each other’s eyes as if they are soaking up the significance of the moment. The slow song is then interrupted by what seems like some type of technical difficulty. All the guests look around, mostly at the DJ or band, and that’s when the fun begins.

Check out the clip below or do a search on You Tube for “First Dance”. This one was one of my favorites but there many others that were strong contenders.

Shoes For Your Wedding Day

There are so many places to purchase wedding shoes these days but if you’re looking for a nice selection then check out My Glass Slipper. They offer a variety of styles, heel heights and designers to choose from. Another good thing about them is they carry couture designers but also offer other brands with similar styles for a less expensive price. Below are a few examples.

The first shoe (above left) is by Cynthia Rowley for $210 but the second shoe (above center) is by Touch Ups for $45. They are very similar in style don’t you think? If you’re looking for a little bling to jazz up this style then you might like the third style by Dyeables for $99 (above left).

This Christian Lacroix style (below left) sells for $549 but you could get the Touch Ups’ version (below right) for $80. Can you tell the difference?

Here are a couple other styles I think would look fabulous with any wedding dress. The first one by Color Creations sells for $54 and the second one by Coloriffics sells for $66. You can’t beat those prices.

Custom Aisle Runner

Most aisle runner companies only offer white or ivory backgrounds for your custom runners but Fairytale Runners offers theirs in an array of colors. In addition to white & ivory they also offer their aisle runners in chocolate brown, green, pink, red and black just to name a few. Check out their website for additional colors. Some of their other products include banners and sidewalk flags.

Onsite Venue Coordinators vs. Wedding Planners

Many prospective clients have asked me if they need a wedding planner when an event coordinator comes with the venue they’ve chosen for their reception. Saundra Hadley over at planning…forever did a post on her blog that addresses this question perfectly. Below is a snipit but feel free to check out the entire post on her blog.

1. On-Site Coordinators are responsible for their venue. Their alliance and most important concern is their venue. The venue pays their salary. A wedding planner is responsible to you. This is a third party that is an advocate and a director of all your vendors and wishes.

2. On-Site Coordinators may have limited vendor referrals. Most of them will have a source of vendors that they love to use at their facility. Because this DJ doesn’t scratch their floors and this florist cleans up after themselves, etc, etc. Instead, a wedding planner knows many vendors that can fit into many different budgets and match client’s personalities. It’s our job to know GREAT vendors that may not advertise!

3. On-Site Coordinators are there only for the reception (or time at their venue). They are not a wedding planner that will take your 10pm etiquette phone calls, or attend a photographers meeting, or negotiate with a band or have a lots of design ideas and magazines for you to look at. A wedding planner is there from the planning stages, rehearsal, ceremony and to the reception.

Now that you have the facts, you can determine what your needs are.

I couldn’t have said it better. Thanks Saundra!

It’s all in the presentation

How great would it be to receive a gift wrapped in paper that has your name on it? Wouldn’t you feel like the person who bought the gift really went out of their way to make it special for you? Well Beau-Coup.com must think so because they offer wrapping paper that can be personalized with names or a short message. So why not include the bride and groom’s name on the wrapping paper for their wedding gift. While you’re at it why not incorporate their wedding color palette too. Your gift will stand out from the rest on the gift table.

Brides don’t forget about your bridal party. Include a cute message to your bridesmaids and/or groomsmen.

My Birthday Tea Party

Today was my tea party to celebrate my birthday which was this past Tuesday. It was held at Brighton’s in the InterContinental Harbor Court Hotel. The room is beautiful and the large windows show off the view of the Inner Harbor. This is another great location for a bridal shower tea party.

A fun time was had by all who were able to attend. Each guest will receive a thank you card by Kimberly Shaw which contains a tea bag so they can enjoy a cup of tea at home.

April & Josh’s Engagement Session

My clients April & Josh had their engagement photo session with the talented Jen Lowe of J. Lowe Photos. They are a sweet and fun loving couple and I can’t wait for their wedding next year. Click here to see their photo slide show. If you’d like to see more of Jen’s work check out her blog.
