I will be taking a much needed vacation this week. My husband and I are headed to glitzy Las Vegas. There’s so much to see and do there so I’ll probably be MIA from the blog until I return. Although the commercials say “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”, I will post pictures when I get back.
Have a great week…I know I will.
I had pleasure of having high tea with my mother this afternoon. We ventured to Tea by Two in Bel Air, MD. Because my mom is from the south, we chose Georgia Peach flavored tea to compliment our delicious almond scone. No tea party experience would be complete without finger sandwiches.
Although we were seated in the main dining room, Tea by Two has a private room which can hold 10-12 guests. Or choose to book the entire space for 20-30 guests. What a perfect venue for a bridal shower.
Well actually it was Oct. 4th so I’m a little late. It’s been a few years since I married my wonderful husband and I’d do it again if given the chance. I’ve actually thought about doing it again since our anniversary falls on a Saturday next year. I get a little jealous when assisting brides with their wedding planning. Things are so different than when I got married. Couples weren’t doing signature drinks, chocolate fountains, candy buffets, coffee bars, martini luges, lounges, etc. back then. Don’t even get me started on the bridal fashions. Gowns with pick-up skirts and colored sashes for your waist are all the rage now but must’ve just been on the drawing board when I got married.
There are a few things I’d do differently if I decided to do it all over again. First, I would check the references of my “day of” wedding coordinator. I probably wouldn’t have hired her if I’d done that. In my defense, she was a friend who had been in the wedding business for 5 years. Let’s just say things didn’t go as well as I planned. Luckily everything fell into place thanks to my very capable hostesses who saved the day. It just urks me that they did part of a job that I paid someone one else to do. Secondly, I would’ve spent more funds on décor…more specifically chair covers or chiavari chairs. They would’ve added more elegance to my candlelight theme.
Of course there are some things I’d do exactly the same. I’d choose the same wedding dress. My dress was a white satin strapless dress with an organza overlay and a cathedral train that I loved from the moment I tried it on. I knew it was THE ONE. I’d definitely choose the same bridal party. Both the Mister and I chose friends that were reliable, supportive and fun. We had 3 attendants each which we’ve known since 1991 or earlier. We couldn’t have asked for a better group of people stand up for us on our special day.
For those of you in the DC/ Maryland/Virginia area, mark your calendars! Spa Week is back October 15th – 21st. Not in our area? No problem. Several other cities are participating too…Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Philadelphia and some cities in Florida, Minnesota, New Jersey and New York. If you are unfamiliar with Spa Week, twice a year usually spring and fall, select spas offer various services for $50 each. What a perfect time to visit your favorite location or check out one you’ve been hearing so much about. Relax and enjoy! |
