Alternative to Bachelorette Party

Some brides really aren’t into the whole “Bachelorette Party” outing where they go bar hopping all night wearing a tiara, veil and banner but they are also looking for something more exciting than a “Girls’ Day at the Spa” too. An alternative would be to take a striptease class. Xpose Fitness has several locations throughout the Baltimore and surrounding areas. You’ll have fun laughing at yourself (and others) but most importantly you can learn a routine to surprise your future husband on your wedding night, one month anniversary or whenever the mood hits you.

Great wedding but was it legal?

Thinking of having your wedding ceremony performed by a friend who became ordained online? You may want to think twice about that idea! Some states may not recognize your union. Click here to read more from the New York Times article published August 5, 2007.

Happy Anniversary

Happy 1 year anniversary to some of my favorite couples from 2006.

Hez & JP were married over Memorial Day weekend last year. Their ceremony was at The Holy Rosary which is a historic Catholic church in downtown Baltimore. Their elegant reception was at Martin’s West in Woodlawn, MD. Click here to view the video clip of their wedding.

Monique & Aaron were married in late July of last year. Their ceremony was at Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist church and their reception was at Westminster Hall both in downtown Baltimore. This couple recently welcomed a new addition to their family…little Miss Morgan is a such cutie pie.

Last but not least, Annette & James were married last August. Their ceremony and reception were held at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, MD. Their theme was all about family and marriage. That’s not surprising considering the bride’s parents have been married for over 40 years.

Congratulations to all of them!

Laurie & Mike

Now on to Laurie & Mike whose wedding was July 14th. They are a very nice couple who just wanted a simple, casual wedding with a tropical feel. They chose the theme based on their honeymoon destination. The tents were draped with fabric panels in festive colors of hot pink, orange and of course white. The tables were dressed in raspberry, lemon and orange linens accompanied by floral centerpieces that included the popular tropical flower birds of paradise. There was even a palm tree centerpiece for the appetizer table to really tie in the tropical theme.

They’ve both been married before and didn’t want the hoopla and formality that is usually associated with planning a traditional wedding…they’ve “been there done that” so to speak. So they opted for the popular celebrity trend of a surprise wedding. In their case, the 50 guests invited to the ceremony knew about the wedding but the 100 guests arriving for the reception thought they were attending the couple’s annual summer party. It was so much fun watching guests’ reactions to the news that the couple had just gotten married 2 hours ago. Some of the funnier responses included “I would’ve dressed better if I’d known I was coming to a wedding reception” and “If I’d known they were getting married, I would’ve brought a better gift”. One of the best highlights of the evening has to be when the groom serenaded his bride during the wedding ceremony (notice the guitar in the second picture below). Instead of doing a unity candle they poured various colors of sand into a large jar which will be displayed in their home for years to come.

Martiza & Richard

I’ve done a few weddings this season but two of my favorites would have to be Maritza & Richard and Laurie & Mike.

I’ll start with Maritza & Richard since their wedding was June 23rd. The ceremony and reception were held at a historic mansion in Columbia, MD which was the perfect venue for their 70 guests. It was a perfect day for an outdoor ceremony since we had unusually cool June weather with temps around 80 degrees. The reception took place in the ballroom which was romantically lit by candles, crystal chandeliers and wall sconces.

Maritza & Richard are the sweetest couple and by far one of my best clients. I felt so honored to share in their wedding day. I look at them together; how they compliment each other, how much in love they are and all I can do is smile. This is the couple that I expect to be together forever. Even their Maid of Honor said they are her example of what a couple should be. Maybe, they’ll call on me to plan their 50th wedding anniversary…lol. Welcome & Running of the Brides

Hello everyone. Welcome to the Affairs With Elegance blog. I am no stranger to the “blogging” world. After visiting several blogs over the past few months, the blog bug finally got me. You are always a student in this business since it is an ever changing industry. I’ve enjoyed reading the insightful thoughts of others as well as learning helpful tidbits along the way. I thought I might do the same for others so today, August 3, 2007 is my very first blog.

How fitting to start a wedding blog on the same day as the running of the brides in Washington, DC. For those of you who are not familiar with this event, it is an annual wedding gown sale that is held at select Filene’s Basement stores across the country (i.e. Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, New York, Washington, DC, etc). See the attached link for tips and information on how you might acquire a high end designer wedding gown without paying the high end price. The next sale will be held in Lawrenceville, NJ on October 19th. For those of you who can’t make the last “Running of the Brides” for 2007 then there’s always next year.
